Website Automation

I will admit there is no way I can cover all the different ways to use plugins the WordPress platform, and other online services, offer to automate your website.  I do know what my clients like and use regularly.  But there is so much more it gives me goose-bumps.  As I explore and test more, I will include them here on this site.  That being said, here is a list of different types of WP automation you can do: Please understand ONLY the ones with an *” are ones I have used and endorse.

Automate tags and paginationWordPress Automation Suite automates the process of adding your tags to your posts.  It also has an Auto More Tag module, Auto Pagination Module, too.

*Schedule when your posts are published.  Actually this is not a plugin, the WP platform offers on their dashboard.  On each page or post’s dashboard page, you will find the date you want your post to be published on the right sidebar; it automatically sets that to the current time.  Just change the date.  This can also be done in the Post list “Quick edit” area.

Automated Editing creates excerpts without any effort on your part… well, other than uploading and activating the plugin.

*Scheduled Backup of your site.  I have tried many of these, especially ones that integrate with Dropbox.  None worked well, or worked for a while.  I ended up purchasing one that not only has a quick restore, but also a migrate option.  Backup Buddy is not cheap (but I do include it free in some of my package deals since it saves so much in the long run!), but it is nice to know when it completes and very specifically why it doesn’t… when that happens.  Also it helps me save on my Dropbox storage with options like automatically deleting older files, or limiting the number of files to save, and a choice to backup data or everything.

*Networked Blogs (also not a plugin) not only allows you to create an automatic blog feed on one of the best blog feed readers; it will also allow you to automatically post such feed to your Facebook page, your Twitter account, and more.  And it is free.

*Speaking of social networking, there are more automated social plugins that post to your social pages than you will ever need.  If you have only one or two social networks, you may want to go to their site and see what they offer to link to your website’s blog.  All of these are usually free.  But for $5 a YEAR, you can automatically post your chosen blogs/categories to many different social sites, including LinkedIN.  Leenk.me offers a lot more flexibility in how you post than many similar free plugins I found.  But research your social sites; many offer free options that comply with their Terms of Use and other requirements when using their logos.

New Posts create newsletter for your subscribers.  Unfortunately at this time the best one out there seems to be a feature of a MailChimp account.  But what it does is amazing.  FeedBurner also offers an email option to their RSS service.

Easy Automatic Newsletter Lite collects your blog posts for the past month and sends them out daily, weekly, or monthly to subscribers… automatically.

Automatic YouTube Posts Plugin automatically imports YouTube videos from any YouTube channel and/or playlist you choose, creates posts for them and publishes them or creates a post draft according to your settings.  Great for folks who do tutorials and video blogs!

Net-Results Marketing Automation tracks visitors as they interact with your website and allows you to launch drip/trigger/lead nurturing email campaigns that are fully tracked.  Think of it as Google Analytics on steroids.

Automatic translators.  There are a number of plugins that allow visitors to translate your site into their language with a click of a button.

My Trending Post automatically searches the Trending Topic on Twitter and sends a tweet if it finds a related blog on your website.

Automatic blog writingWP-o-Matic makes auto blogging a snap by automatically creating posts from the RSS/Atom feeds from other sites you choose, which are organized into campaigns.  It is a great way to keep your blog current and fresh.

Easy PayPal helps you quickly set up an online store to sell any downloadable item, where your buyers can pay for it and get an automatic, expiring download link.

SEO Smart Links can automatically link keywords and phrases in your posts and comments with corresponding posts, pages, categories and tags on your blog.

Automatic Sign Out For Inactivity does what it name implies.  The default setting ins 24 hours, but you can change this.  Great security for sites with multiple users, since it minimize certain security risks involved with session stealing.
