What you don’t know can make you invisible! Research, done right, is always full of riches. Let me ask you…
- Are your competitors using your keywords?
- Are some of their blogs getting more hits than your whole site?
- Do you know which browser, device, and time of day your customers are finding you?
- What can you offer your customers that your competitors don’t? What else? Is that all?!?!?!
- What does the news about your industry say about you? If it is good, why isn’t this info on your site in spades?
Bottom line folks, when I was laid off 2 years ago research was the only thing I could rely on. With my job prospects slim (jobs in specific fields like broadcasting are not easy to come by), I dove headfirst into the Internet for help and hope. It took me 6 months, 10-12 hours a day (no weekends off, I was to scared) to figure out my future. Understand most of that time I was weeding through all the duplication out there. I can’t say how many weeks I spent reading the same info over and over and over. What I did realize was that my BD (Bullheaded Determination) was refining my search skills. It is rare I don’t find what I’m looking for at the top of my search today, having all the duplications bypassed.
The other side of this is that I know what is important and where it needs to be placed to be found when searched. Forget SEO and keywords. Google Adwords: Keyword Tool proves this. What does your keyword bring up? Are the number of different search phrases and terms that match your business, your website astound or confuse you? In other words, keywords search and choice is important; but it is just part of the potential of the Internet.
Searching the Internet for the answers to the questions above, and anything else you think your readers/customers/clients may be interested in, is as important as keywords; especially if you have many competitors. Being unique, above the rest, offering things that are important to your clients better than your competitors or more easily accessed than your competitors… well folks THAT is what it is ALL about.
