Why do I specialize only in WordPress? It is #1 for a reason. : being the largest and most flexible free website platform is just the start. There are more plugins for functions, styling, forms, etc., than most developers know about; and help for each (except for some themes and plugins; keep reading, details in […]

Websites Migrated to WordPress:
ProfessorRoberts.com Did you know some older websites created via Yahoo! free website builder will no longer support the next Windows upgrade? Windows 8. There are many reasons to migrate to WordPress, and Professor Roberts book is a must read if you know of anyone who may be attending college soon. His credentials and whistle blower style of writing will help anyone wanting to get the most out of their college education and what it costs an empowering read.
PrimeStrategies.com Andres Basso designed this site; and a great job for the woman it represents. I migrated the content from her docStudio site to the WordPress platform; and incorporated her old WordPress.com blog site. I also did a documentation of her old sites since she didn’t want some of the old content on the new site, but wanted to have access to it if she needs it. The two sites were combined in this one new site. One almost immediate benefit to the WordPress platform was that she was able to save her monthly cost of FormStack; WP integrates with multiple free amazing form plugins and Constant Contact.
AskAnAngel.org is another website I helped migrate. It seems the person hired to migrate it didn’t do a backup. (Of which my documentation process is included in every migration… for my safety as well as my clients.) Pages and pages of content were missing. And even thought this was a long and arduous project; I was able to restore almost all of the internal and external links, documents, and pages. I also had a lot of fun getting the sidebar and other widgets to work with the new theme. Creating some of the PDFs (for the downloads offered) from the Internet Archive with Adobe help was also included.
DianneLegro.com came to me with some post-migration problems as well. The great thing is that she was my first client (she wanted me to create and publish newsletters from MyNetworkBuilder for her client) and allowed me access to her website to update a few things. During this process I developed my website mapping technique (which is the backbone of my website documentation package). So once the site was migrated and the errors found, my documentation allowed me to quickly and easily add the missing content and fix coding errors to make it look even more like the old site.
Did you know your new website can be created, tweaked, and THEN uploaded to the web? Yep, I do MOCK SITES; and it really doesn’t add that much to the final site creation/migration cost. This is especially good if you want to see your website with different themes! Oh, PLEASE don’t buy a theme until you hire your designer/developer/webmaster!
All migration work includes site/page documentation.
I will admit there is no way I can cover all the different ways to use plugins the WordPress platform, and other online services, offer to automate your website. I do know what my clients like and use regularly. But there is so much more it gives me goose-bumps. As I explore and test more, […]
This theme came to my attention quite a while ago, and continues to impress me as time goes on. It is, hands down, the best theme for brick and mortar stores!! It is not a free theme, unless you buy some licenses and give them to your clients (like I do). Buying it outright is […]
When it comes to hacked sites, most developers consider this a bitter-sweet situation. You never hope your client’s website is hacked, but if it is there is no better rush than when you fix it and defeat them! As for me, I get the same high when I fix bad code and make the site […]
WHY migrate a website to the WordPress platform? In one word functionality, but that is just the top of the list. Support, choice, flexibility, notoriety, and (if done right) a website that grows, evolves, and embraces all the new technologies without a second thought… even the ones we don’t know about yet. In short, how […]
Whether DIY or freelance, what do you need to create an effective website from scratch? Well, a good outline of content and function after learning the basics possibilities available in each platform can save more money than you can imagine. Such planning will get a professional looking site at a fraction of the cost… even […]
Due to the logical and organizational skills of one client, I was able to do a site from scratch in two days! This is the type of organization that saves time and money. This type of focus can help you create your site faster with fewer revisions. Her outline included: Page name and order (including […]
Backup of a site is pretty self-explanatory, yet there are variables to consider and schedules to be set. Many backup plugins offer to back up to your host server or a remote account, like Dropbox. Then you can decide to backup just your data or the whole site; the rule of thumb here is to […]
Let’s make sure we are all on the same page first. Understand a website has 3 basic elements to reside on the Internet. A domain name that has to be registered with a domain name registrar. They are the folks who keep your domain name so no one else can claim or use it. There […]
There are more WordPress themes available than anyone can completely comprehend: free themes, in-expensive themes, expensive themes, and (best of all) a theme made for your specifications. This last one is WordPress’s standard “Twenty Eleven” theme. It is basic yet: updated, ready for mobile devices, and more versatile than many paid themes. But basic design […]
